EXHIBITION PREFACE
In the *Classic of Mountains and Seas*, ten suns hang in the sky, their blazing light plunging the world into chaos, a warning from the ancients of the collapse of order. In today's information world, the torrent of layered images and data, like superfluous suns, exposes our vision to unprecedented levels, yet also blinds us in excessive light. In Miao Jing's *Ten Suns of Chaos*, those suns can be the origin of life in ancient mythology, or simply an emoji—grand narratives compressed into two insignificant characters in an endless stream of data.
Miao Jing refuses to be a passive bystander or a futile witness. He sees himself as a creator, building gardens within a digital coordinate system, sculpting forms with algorithms, and then polishing the virtual into tangible reality with the warmth of his hands. His creations are neither copies nor simulations, but rather a call from instinct—a quest for meaning, a yearning to re-embodiment myth and desire. He uses CG simulation to imprint, and then polishes and gilds his 3D-printed sculptures with the warmth of his hands. In countless repetitions and iterations, his obsession with handcraft becomes a rebellious stance—in an era where efficiency is the creed, he confronts the hegemony of speed with slow craftsmanship.
This creative process is akin to a modern Sisyphus myth. He sees the dissolution of meaning not as punishment, but as resistance—a stubborn refusal to let the outcome be predetermined by algorithms. Each print and polish is his perseverance in pushing a boulder up a mountain with his own hands; what remains is not the posture of reaching the end, but the texture of time. Every mark is proof that "creation" is still possible.
"Does the sun still rise in the east?" In Miao Jing's world, this question is both a metaphor and a ritual. Those suns suspended in virtual space become humanity's call for "truth" in a lightless era. Perhaps in a future where sunlight is no longer needed, we will still need to restore our worship through "archaeology"—letting the digital sun rise again and again in the virtual world.
