Transition 渐

2016

{Artwork, Audiovisual Installation}

4 of Single Channel Video

Flexible Size

-

Transition is an audiovisual installation, created by New York-based studio, Hibanana Studio by Miao Jing and Chang Liu, and in collaboration with Beijing-based musician Jason Hou.

Transition is a multi-chapter video installation, which currently includes four individual single channel videos in the first chapter, “Transition - Animal”. Inspired by the concept of transmigration from Buddhism, artist Miao Jing and Chang Liu start to create a transient space where one creature’s life waiting for transforming to another’s, which also called “Samsara” in religious context. Influenced by the root of Chinese culture, they create this series of video sculptures by looking at the references of antique towers, antique architecture, and antique objects in both secular life and religious life.

In collaboration with musician Jason Hou, sound and visual become a synchronized experience to transport audiences from the mundane reality to a spiritual environment. Transition tries to provoke the thoughts through visualizing the belief of Samsara beyond life and death.
